Trail Blazers Crush Lakers ! ! ! ! !

http://www.iamatrailblazersfan.com/GamesPagesRoot/tabid/110/IamaGameID/291/Default.aspxTrail Blazers continue home dominance of Lakers

The thing that makes a rivalry game so unique and entertaining is the extra buzz and emotion that you can sense even before the game gets started. In front of a rowdy and raucous Rose Garden crowd, the Portland Trail Blazers (23-15) continued their home dominance of the Los Angeles Lakers in their 107-98 victory.

The Trail Blazers have now won nine consecutive games at the Rose Garden against the Lakers, which is tied for their longest current home winning streak (Minnesota) against any opponent. While the ability to score against the defending champions certainly proved to be impressive, Trail Blazers head coach Nate McMillan came away most impressed with the play on the defensive end of the court.

"I thought it was a great win for us in the sense that we played great basketball tonight," McMillan emphasized after the game. "Defensively, we played the way we've talked about. We need to play that way and be consistent with that- being physical, making them work."

Over the course of the past month, Brandon Roy is playing at an All-NBA level. He continued this tremendous form against the Lakers, scoring 32 points, dishing out six assists, and pulling down five boards. What makes his play so impressive is the ability to be both efficient and dominant on the offensive end. Roy hit 9-11 shots from the field and also converted on 13-14 attempts from the free-throw line.

Since the start of 2010, Andre Miller has shown much more confidence and rhythm in the Trail Blazers offense. Miller scored 17 points and dished out seven assists, including a key pass to a cutting Brandon Roy late in the fourth quarter. Over his past five games, Miller is averaging 16.8 points and 7.2 assists.

While Martell Webster is in the best offensive form of his career, his performance against the Lakers will be remembered for his play on the defensive end of the court. Webster scored 14 points and pulled down eight boards, but his ability to force Kobe Bryant into uncomfortable and contested jumpers proved to be key in this victory. After the game, Webster admitted to being excited about his match up with Bryant.

"It wasn't necessarily me going out there trying to show something, but I'll tell you one thing- it's easier to get motivated when you're playing a team like that and player like that," Webster said with a laugh. "I kinda took it- I had my heart on my sleeve a little bit. I wanted to prove that I could get down, to myself, and guard him."

Off the bench, both Jerryd Bayless and Dante Cunningham provided valuable contributions. Bayless played his best offensive game in weeks, scoring 21 points in 21 minutes of action. Cunningham did a tremendous job of matching up with Lamar Odom on the defensive end, while also scoring seven points and pulling down five boards.

Bryant led the Lakers with a team-high 32 points, but had to take 37 shots to get those points. While he struggled with his shot, Bryant did put together a complete performance, adding eight boards and a team-high seven assists. Lamar Odom played with great energy in the absence of Pau Gasol, scoring 15 points and pulling down 13 boards for the double-double.

It doesn't get any easier for the Trail Blazers, as they host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday night. Opening tip is scheduled for 6:00 PST.
